Dr. Joost Santos received a B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Philippines, and a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia. Professor Santos serves as an Associate Professor at George Washington University's Engineering Management and Systems Engineering (EMSE) department. His research interests lie at the intersection of systems engineering, disaster risk analysis, and economics. Professor Santos has been involved in critical infrastructure protection projects including transportation, electric power, and oil/gas process control systems. Professor Santos utilizes and develops extensions to the economic input-output model to predict the ripple effects of disasters across interdependent infrastructure and economic systems.
